Before You Start

  • Google Chrome browser (desktop)
  • Prompt Anything Pro installed from the Chrome Web Store
  • At least one API key configured (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google)
  • PRO plan (custom templates are a PRO feature)
1

Open the Prompt Anything Pro library

Click the Prompt Anything Pro icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the extension popup. Navigate to the Library tab. This is where all your saved responses and custom templates live. The library is searchable, filterable by tag, and supports JSON/CSV export for backups.

2

Create a new custom template

Click "Create New Template" (or the + button) to open the template editor. You will see fields for: Template Name (a short, descriptive label), Category (choose from existing categories or create a new one), and the Prompt Body (the actual prompt text that will be sent to the AI model along with the selected text).
3

Write your template prompt with variables

Craft your prompt in the Prompt Body field. The selected text from the webpage is automatically appended to your template when you use it, so write the instructions as if you are talking to the AI. Be specific about the output format you want. For example: "Summarize the following text in exactly 3 bullet points. Each bullet should be one sentence. Focus on actionable insights, not background context." Or: "Translate the following text to Spanish. Maintain the original tone and formality level. If there are idioms, adapt them to their Spanish equivalent rather than translating literally."
Pro Tip

Great templates are specific about format, length, and tone. Instead of 'Summarize this', try 'Summarize this in 3 bullet points, each under 15 words, focusing on actionable takeaways.' The more precise your instructions, the more consistent your results.

4

Tag and save your template

Add descriptive tags to your template (e.g., 'writing', 'email', 'code', 'research') to make it easy to find later. Tags are used for filtering in the library. Give your template a clear name that describes what it does (e.g., '3-Bullet Summary', 'Spanish Translation', 'Code Review Checklist'). Click Save to add it to your library.
5

Use your custom template on any webpage

Navigate to any webpage and select the text you want to process. Click the floating PlugMonkey button. In the template selector, you will see your custom templates alongside the 430+ built-in presets. Select your custom template, choose your preferred AI model, and click Send. The AI processes your selected text using the exact instructions from your template.
6

Iterate and refine your templates

After using a template a few times, you will notice patterns in the AI output that could be improved. Go back to the Library, find your template, and edit it. Add clarifying instructions, adjust the output format, or refine the tone. The best templates evolve through iteration — start simple and add specificity based on real results.
Pro Tip

Build a template collection for your most common tasks: email drafts, meeting summaries, code reviews, social media posts, translation, and research analysis. Over time, your library becomes a personalized AI toolkit that saves hours of repetitive work.

7

Export and back up your template library

Once you have built a collection of custom templates, use the Export feature to back them up. Click the Export button in the Library tab and choose JSON or CSV format. The exported file includes all your templates, tags, and metadata. You can re-import this file on another device or after reinstalling the extension to restore your complete library instantly.

Summary

Custom prompt templates transform Prompt Anything Pro from a general-purpose AI tool into a personalized productivity system. By creating templates tailored to your specific workflows — email drafting, code review, content summarization, translation — you get consistent, high-quality AI output with a single click on any webpage. The best templates are specific about format, length, and tone. Build your library incrementally, refine templates based on real usage, and export regularly for backups. With custom templates, your most common AI tasks become one-click operations across every website you visit.
