ChatGPT Prompts for SEO That Save Hours of Research

Keyword clusters, content briefs, meta tags, internal linking plans — every core SEO task, prompt-ready.

12 prompts|Updated March 2026

SEO work is repetitive by nature — the same frameworks applied across dozens of pages, posts, and keywords. These prompts automate the structural and research-heavy parts of SEO so you can spend time on strategy and analysis instead of formatting. They work best when you supply real URLs, real competitors, and actual keyword data.

1

Keyword Cluster from Seed Topic

Act as an SEO strategist. Given the seed topic '[Seed Topic]' for a website in the [Industry/Niche] space targeting [Target Audience], create a comprehensive keyword cluster.

For each keyword provide:
- Keyword phrase
- Estimated search intent (informational, navigational, commercial, transactional)
- Funnel stage (ToFu / MoFu / BoFu)
- Suggested content type (blog post, landing page, product page, FAQ)
- Parent/child relationship (pillar page vs. cluster content)

Organize into:
1. One pillar page keyword (high volume, broad)
2. 5 supporting cluster keywords (specific, lower competition)
3. 3 long-tail keywords with strong transactional intent

Explain your topical authority logic: how does covering all these together help the site rank?
Feed this cluster into your content calendar prompt to create a publishing schedule that builds authority systematically.
2

Batch Meta Descriptions

Write SEO meta descriptions for the following pages on [Website Name] in the [Industry] space.

Rules:
- Each meta description must be 150-160 characters exactly
- Include the primary keyword naturally
- Lead with the value to the searcher (what they'll get)
- End with an implicit or explicit CTA
- Do not start with 'Learn how' or 'Discover'
- Match the search intent of each page

Pages:
1. [Page Title 1] — Primary keyword: [Keyword 1]
2. [Page Title 2] — Primary keyword: [Keyword 2]
3. [Page Title 3] — Primary keyword: [Keyword 3]
4. [Page Title 4] — Primary keyword: [Keyword 4]
5. [Page Title 5] — Primary keyword: [Keyword 5]

For each, also provide one alternative version with a different angle.
Paste 10-20 pages at a time to batch this task. Add 'Flag any that feel too similar so I can diversify them' to catch duplicate tone.
3

SEO Content Brief

Create a detailed SEO content brief for a [Content Type, e.g. blog post, pillar page] targeting the keyword: '[Target Keyword]'

Website context: [Brief description of the site and its audience]
Competitors to outrank: [Optional: list 2-3 competing URLs or titles]
Desired word count: [e.g. 1,800 words]

Deliver:
1. SEO title (under 60 chars, keyword near front)
2. Meta description (150-160 chars)
3. H1 (can differ slightly from SEO title)
4. H2 and H3 outline with notes on what each section covers
5. Primary keyword + 3-5 semantic/LSI keywords to weave in
6. 2 questions to answer that appear in Google's 'People Also Ask'
7. Internal linking opportunities (mention what pages to link to/from)
8. E-E-A-T signals to include: stats, quotes, original research, author credentials
4

Internal Linking Plan for a Page

Create an internal linking plan for a new page on [Website URL or Site Description] about '[Page Topic]'.

Existing pages on the site (list your top 10-15 URLs or page titles):
[Paste your sitemap excerpt or list of pages here]

For the new page, identify:
1. Which existing pages should link TO this new page (and what anchor text to use)
2. Which pages this new page should link OUT to (and what anchor text)
3. Any pages that are currently competing for the same keyword that need to be consolidated or differentiated

Also write 3 internal link anchor text variations for each link (exact match, partial match, natural/contextual).

Explain the PageRank flow logic behind your recommendations.
Paste this plan into your CMS task list and check off links as you add them to avoid orphan pages.
5

Competitor Content Gap Analysis

Perform a content gap analysis between [My Website] and [Competitor Website] in the [Industry] space.

My site covers: [List 5-10 main topics or page types]
Competitor site seems to cover: [List what you know about their content, or ask ChatGPT to infer from their known positioning]

Identify:
1. Topics the competitor likely ranks for that we are missing entirely
2. Topics we both cover but they probably do better (explain why)
3. Topics we cover that they miss (our potential advantage)
4. 5 specific article/page ideas that would help close the gap

For each gap opportunity, estimate: effort level (low/medium/high) and potential impact (based on likely search volume and intent).
6

A2: [Answer 2]

Q3: [Question 3]

Rewrite the following title tags to improve click-through rate without keyword stuffing. The target keyword for each is listed.

Rules:
- Keep each title under 60 characters
- Lead with the keyword or a strong benefit
- Add a power word or number where natural
- Avoid: clickbait, ALL CAPS, excessive punctuation
- Keep brand name at the end if space allows (format: Title | Brand)

Current titles:
1. '[Current Title 1]' — keyword: [Keyword 1]
2. '[Current Title 2]' — keyword: [Keyword 2]
3. '[Current Title 3]' — keyword: [Keyword 3]
4. '[Current Title 4]' — keyword: [Keyword 4]

For each, provide 3 variations and explain which you'd A/B test first and why.
8

Programmatic SEO Page Template

Design a content template for a programmatic SEO page targeting the pattern: '[SEO Pattern, e.g. Best [Tool Category] in [City]]'

Site context: [What the site does and who it's for]
Expected scale: [How many pages will use this template, e.g. 500 city pages]

Deliver:
1. Page structure (H1, H2s, H3s) with variable placeholders in [brackets]
2. Which sections should be static (shared across all pages) vs. dynamic (unique per page)
3. 5 content modules that can be swapped in/out based on data availability
4. How to avoid duplicate content penalties at scale
5. Internal linking logic between pages in this cluster
6. A sample page using: [Example Value 1] and [Example Value 2] as variables
The 'avoid duplicate content' section is critical — ask ChatGPT to expand it if you're building 1,000+ pages.
9

Blog Post SEO Audit

Perform an SEO audit on the following blog post. Identify issues and provide specific fixes.

[Paste the full blog post content here, or paste the URL if ChatGPT has browsing enabled]

Target keyword: [Primary Keyword]
Current Google position: [Position, or 'unknown']

Audit for:
1. Keyword placement (H1, first 100 words, H2s, body)
2. Title tag and meta description quality
3. Content depth vs. likely top-ranking competitors
4. Heading structure (H1 > H2 > H3 hierarchy)
5. Internal and external linking
6. E-E-A-T signals present or missing
7. Content freshness signals
8. Any cannibalization risk with other posts

For each issue: rate severity (high/medium/low) and give a specific fix.
10

Topical Authority Map

Build a topical authority map for a website in the [Niche] space that wants to dominate search results for '[Core Topic]'.

Current domain authority: [DA score, or 'new site']
Current content: [List 5-10 existing posts/pages if any]
Target audience: [Who the site is for]

Deliver a hierarchical map:
- Level 1: The one pillar topic
- Level 2: 5-7 sub-topics that support it
- Level 3: 3-4 cluster articles per sub-topic

For each cluster article include: a working title, target keyword, and estimated intent.

Finally, suggest a publishing priority order based on: quick wins (low competition, high relevance) first, then authority builders, then big competitive targets.
Export this map into a spreadsheet and use it as your editorial calendar backbone for the next 6-12 months.
11

Local SEO Page Content

Write the main body content for a local SEO landing page targeting '[Service] in [City, State]'.

Business context:
- Business name: [Name]
- Service offered: [Service description]
- What makes this business different: [Differentiators]
- Service area: [City + surrounding areas covered]
- Any local proof points: [Local awards, years in business, customer stats]

Requirements:
- 400-600 words
- H1: include '[Service] in [City]' naturally
- Mention [City] and at least 2 nearby neighborhoods or landmarks naturally
- Include a 'Why Choose Us' section with 3 specific points
- Close with a local-specific CTA
- Avoid: generic filler content that could appear on any location page
12

People Also Ask Expansion

I'm writing a piece of content targeting the keyword '[Primary Keyword]'. Here are the People Also Ask (PAA) questions Google shows for this keyword:

1. [PAA Question 1]
2. [PAA Question 2]
3. [PAA Question 3]
4. [PAA Question 4]

For each question:
1. Write a concise answer (50-80 words) optimized to appear as a featured snippet
2. Suggest the ideal heading level to use if adding this to the article
3. Note any additional context or caveats that would make the answer more authoritative

Also suggest 3 additional PAA-style questions on this topic that Google might not be showing yet, based on what a thorough reader would want to know.
Answers under 50 words have a better chance of winning featured snippets. Ask ChatGPT to shorten any answer that runs long.

How to Use These Prompts

These SEO prompts work best when you provide real data: actual keywords, competitor URLs, and your site's existing content. For keyword and content brief prompts, replace the bracket variables with your exact target terms before submitting. When auditing existing content, paste the full article text directly into the prompt rather than relying on URL browsing — you'll get more specific and actionable feedback. Run each prompt output through your own SEO judgment before implementing, since ChatGPT doesn't have access to live search volume or ranking data.
