How to Use AI on Any Webpage Without Switching Tabs

Before You Start

  • Google Chrome browser (desktop)

Install Prompt Anything Pro from the Chrome Web Store

Visit the Chrome Web Store listing and click "Add to Chrome." The extension installs instantly. No subscription or account creation is needed — you bring your own API keys and pay only for what you use directly to the AI provider.

Add your API key from a supported provider

Click the Prompt Anything Pro icon in your Chrome toolbar, then open Settings. Under the "API Keys" section, add your key from one or more supported providers: OpenAI — Get your key at platform.openai.com/api-keys. Anthropic — Get your key at console.anthropic.com/settings/keys. Google — Get your key at makersuite.google.com/app/apikey. Your API key is stored locally in your browser and never sent to PlugMonkey servers.
Important

Keep your API keys private. Never share them publicly. Prompt Anything Pro stores keys encrypted in Chrome's local storage — they never leave your browser except to authenticate with the AI provider you chose.

Select text on any webpage

Navigate to any webpage — an article, email, document, social media post, code repository, or any other page with text content. Highlight the text you want to process with AI by clicking and dragging to select it. The selection can be a single sentence, a paragraph, or multiple paragraphs.

Click the floating button and choose a template

When you select text, a floating PlugMonkey button appears near your selection. Click it to open the prompt modal. Choose from 15+ preset templates organized by category: Summarize, Explain, Rewrite, Translate, Analyze, Code Review, Email Response, and more. Each template is optimized for its specific task. You can also write a completely custom prompt if none of the presets fit.
Pro Tip

The 'Explain Like I Am 5' template is excellent for understanding technical documentation. The 'Summarize' template condenses long articles into key points. Experiment with different templates on the same text to see which output works best for your needs.

Select your AI model and send the prompt

Choose which AI model to use from the model dropdown: GPT-4o, GPT-4 Turbo, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Claude 3 Opus, Gemini 1.5 Pro, or other available models from your configured providers. Click "Send" to submit your prompt. The response streams in real-time within the modal — you see the AI typing its answer without leaving the page you are on.

Copy, save, or refine the response

Once the response is complete, you have several options: Copy to clipboard with one click. Save to your local library for future reference (with automatic tagging by template type and date). Send a follow-up prompt to refine the result. The response library is searchable, filterable, and exportable as JSON or CSV.

Track your usage and manage your library

Click the Prompt Anything Pro icon in your toolbar to access the token usage tracker and response library. The usage dashboard shows your API spend per provider with breakdowns by model and template type. The library lets you browse, search, and export all saved responses. Use the export feature (JSON or CSV) to back up your library or import responses into other tools.

Check the usage tracker weekly to monitor your API costs. Most users spend less than $5/month using AI directly through their own API keys — significantly less than ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) or Claude Pro ($20/month) subscriptions.
