How to Install Chrome Extensions?

Installing a Chrome extension takes about 30 seconds and requires just a few clicks. Chrome extensions are installed from the Chrome Web Store — Google's official marketplace for browser extensions. Here is the complete process, from finding an extension to managing it after installation.

Last updated: February 15, 2026

Step 1: Open the Chrome Web Store

Visit the Chrome Web Store in your Chrome browser. You can get there by typing "chrome.google.com/webstore" in your address bar or by searching "Chrome Web Store" in Google. Make sure you are using Google Chrome — extensions are not available in other browsers from the Chrome Web Store (though some Chromium-based browsers like Edge, Brave, and Opera can also install Chrome extensions).

Step 2: Find and Install the Extension

Search for the extension you want (e.g., "PlugMonkey" or a specific product like "X Unfollow Pro"). Click on the extension listing to view its details page. Review the description, screenshots, reviews, and permissions. When you are ready, click the "Add to Chrome" button. A permissions dialog will appear asking you to confirm the extension's access requirements. Click "Add extension" to complete the installation.

Step 3: Pin the Extension to Your Toolbar

After installation, the extension icon may be hidden in Chrome's extension menu (the puzzle piece icon in the toolbar). To keep it easily accessible, pin it to your toolbar.
  • Click the puzzle piece icon in the top-right of Chrome's toolbar
  • Find the extension in the dropdown list
  • Click the pin icon next to the extension name — it will turn blue
  • The extension icon now appears permanently in your toolbar for one-click access

Understanding Extension Permissions

When you install a Chrome extension, it requests specific permissions. These permissions define what the extension can access. Understanding them helps you make informed decisions.
  • "Read and change data on [specific site]" — The extension can interact with a specific website (e.g., x.com for X Unfollow Pro). This is normal for extensions that work on specific platforms.
  • "Read and change all your data on all websites" — The extension works across all websites (e.g., Prompt Anything Pro or Video Downloader Pro). This is standard for extensions that need broad website access.
  • "Manage your downloads" — The extension can save files to your computer (needed for Video Downloader Pro and export tools)
  • Chrome Web Store review — All extensions are reviewed by Google before publication. PlugMonkey extensions request only the minimum permissions needed for their functionality.

Managing Installed Extensions

After installation, you can manage your extensions from Chrome's extension settings.
  • Access settings — Type chrome://extensions in your address bar to see all installed extensions
  • Enable/disable — Toggle extensions on or off without uninstalling them
  • Remove — Click "Remove" to uninstall an extension completely
  • Details — Click "Details" to view permissions, update settings, and configure site access
  • Updates — Chrome automatically updates extensions. You do not need to manually update.
