Download 4K UHD Videos Directly in Chrome

Video Downloader Pro detects 4K (2160p) quality options on supported platforms and lets you save them in MP4 H.264 or WebM VP9/AV1 — no desktop software required.

4K video (3840×2160, also called UHD or 2160p) delivers four times the pixel density of 1080p, making it the preferred choice for archiving, professional editing, and large-screen viewing. Not every platform offers true 4K, and of those that do, not every video is uploaded at that resolution. Video Downloader Pro surfaces the 2160p option when it's available and handles the download directly in Chrome — no external app or conversion needed.

How to Download

1

Find a video source that actually offers 4K

4K content availability varies by platform. Vimeo Pro and Business uploads can be true 4K. Some platforms label 1440p as '4K-like' but are not full UHD. Check the video's description or uploader notes to confirm the source resolution. If the platform's own player doesn't offer a 2160p option, the video was not uploaded in 4K and the extension won't find one either.
Tip:Nature documentaries, travel videos, cinematic short films, and professional demo reels are the most common sources of genuine 4K content on video platforms.
2

Play the video to load the 4K stream

Navigate to the video page and start playback. If the platform supports 4K and your account/connection allows it, the player will request the high-resolution stream. Video Downloader Pro captures these network requests as they happen, including the highest-quality stream the player is loading.
Tip:Some platforms restrict 4K playback to premium accounts. If your account doesn't have 4K access, the player won't load a 4K stream and the extension will only see lower-quality options.
3

Open Video Downloader Pro and select the 2160p option

Click the Video Downloader Pro icon. In the quality list, look for entries labeled 2160p, 4K, or UHD. Select that tier. You may also see format variants — MP4 with H.264 encoding is the most universally compatible, while WebM with VP9 or AV1 encoding offers better compression at equivalent quality.
Tip:If you plan to edit the footage, choose MP4 H.264 for broadest software compatibility. If you're archiving or have storage to spare, AV1/VP9 WebM gives you slightly better quality-to-size ratio.
4

Consider file size before downloading

4K video files are large. A one-hour video at 4K can range from 5 GB (highly compressed streaming) to 15 GB or more (high-bitrate professional uploads). Make sure your disk has enough space. On a slow connection, a 10 GB file can take an hour or more to download. The extension shows an estimated file size where possible.
5

Download and verify

Click download. The file will arrive via your browser's standard download manager. Once complete, open it in a player like VLC to confirm the resolution is correct — right-click the file and check properties, or use VLC's codec information panel to verify 3840×2160 resolution.
Tip:QuickTime on macOS may struggle with some 4K VP9/WebM files. VLC handles all formats reliably.

Supported Formats

  • MP4 4K (H.264, 2160p)
  • WebM 4K (VP9, 2160p)
  • WebM 4K (AV1, 2160p)

Limitations

  • 4K downloads produce very large files — typically 5 to 15 GB per hour of video — requiring substantial free disk space and a fast internet connection.
  • Many platforms restrict 4K playback to premium subscribers or specific account tiers. If your account cannot watch 4K, the extension cannot download it.
  • Not all videos are uploaded in 4K. The extension can only offer quality tiers that the platform actually provides for that specific video.
