Before You Start

  • Google Chrome browser (desktop)
  • Video Downloader Pro installed from the Chrome Web Store
  • Sufficient storage space for downloaded video files
1

Install Video Downloader Pro from the Chrome Web Store

Visit the Chrome Web Store listing and click "Add to Chrome." The extension is free to install and works immediately. No account creation, no sign-ups, and no configuration needed.

2

Visit any webpage with a video you want to download

Navigate to the website containing the video you want to save. Video Downloader Pro works on Vimeo, Facebook, Dailymotion, Twitch, TikTok, Instagram, and thousands of other sites. It automatically detects HTML5 video players, embedded frames, script-based video libraries, and HLS (m3u8) streaming formats.
Important

YouTube is excluded per Chrome Web Store policy and the extension does not function on youtube.com. DRM-protected content (Netflix, Disney+, etc.) is also not supported.

3

Click the floating button to see detected videos

When Video Downloader Pro detects playable media on a page, a floating button appears. Click it to open the download panel. The panel shows every detected video source with thumbnail previews, file size estimates, and available quality options. If there are multiple videos on the page, each one is listed separately.
Pro Tip

The floating button appears automatically when videos are detected. If you do not see it, try playing the video first — some sites load video sources lazily and the extension detects them once playback begins.

4

Select your preferred video quality

Choose the quality level you want: SD (480p), HD (720p), Full HD (1080p), 4K (2160p), or even 8K (4320p) when available. Higher resolutions produce larger files. The panel shows the estimated file size for each quality option so you can make an informed choice. Most videos are available in at least SD and HD; 4K and 8K depend on the source video quality.
Pro Tip

For most uses, 1080p (Full HD) offers the best balance of quality and file size. Choose 4K or 8K only when you need maximum quality for presentations, archiving, or professional use.

5

Download the video file

Click the download button next to your chosen quality. The video file downloads directly to your default Chrome downloads folder. There are no redirects to external sites, no ads, and no pop-ups. The download uses Chrome's native download API for reliable, resumable downloads with progress tracking.

6

Find the downloaded file in your downloads folder

Open your system's Downloads folder (or press Ctrl+J / Cmd+J in Chrome to open the downloads page). Your video file is saved as an MP4 (most common), WebM, or MOV file depending on the source. You can now play it with any video player, import it into an editing application, or share it as needed.
Pro Tip

Video Downloader Pro saves files in their original format (usually MP4). If you need a different format, use a free converter like HandBrake or VLC. The downloaded file retains the full quality of the selected resolution.

Summary

You can now download videos from virtually any website using Video Downloader Pro. The extension automatically detects video sources on any page, shows thumbnail previews with quality options, and downloads files directly to your computer. It handles standard HTML5 players, embedded frames, and even HLS streaming formats — all in resolutions from SD to 8K. Remember that YouTube is excluded per Chrome Web Store policy, and DRM-protected content cannot be downloaded. For everything else, this is the fastest way to save web videos for personal, educational, or professional use.
