Before You Start

  • Google Chrome browser (desktop)
  • An Instagram account (logged in via web browser)
  • Instagram Followers Exporter Pro installed from the Chrome Web Store
  • A spreadsheet application (Excel, Google Sheets, or similar)
1

Install Instagram Followers Exporter Pro

Visit the Chrome Web Store listing and click "Add to Chrome." The extension uses your existing logged-in Instagram session — no API keys or developer accounts needed.

2

Export your followers to CSV

Navigate to your Instagram profile page and click the floating PlugMonkey button to open the exporter panel. Your username is auto-filled. Select "Followers" and click "Start." The extension fetches your entire follower list with metadata fields including display name, bio, follower count, following count, post count, verified status, and profile URL. A progress bar shows real-time completion status.
Pro Tip

For accounts with large follower counts (10K+), the export may take several minutes. Leave the tab open and let the extension work — it handles rate limiting automatically.

3

Download the CSV and open it in your spreadsheet

Once the export completes, click "Download CSV." Open the file in Google Sheets or Excel. You will see columns for Username, Display Name, Bio, Follower Count, Following Count, Post Count, Verified Status, Private/Public Status, Profile URL, and more. Each row represents one follower.

4

Segment followers by account size

Sort the spreadsheet by Follower Count (descending) to understand the influence distribution of your audience. Create size tiers: Micro (0-1,000 followers), Growing (1,000-10,000), Mid-tier (10,000-100,000), and Large (100,000+). Use COUNTIFS to tally how many followers fall into each tier. This distribution reveals whether your audience is mostly everyday users, aspiring creators, or established accounts.
Pro Tip

If most of your followers are in the Micro tier, your content resonates with everyday Instagram users. If you have a high concentration of Growing and Mid-tier accounts, you are attracting creators and professionals — valuable for collaborations and partnerships.

5

Identify your most influential followers

With the spreadsheet still sorted by Follower Count (descending), examine your top 50-100 most influential followers. Note their display names, bios, and niches. These are the accounts whose engagement (likes, comments, shares) drives the most visibility for your posts. Copy these into a separate sheet as your VIP list.
Pro Tip

Engage with your top influential followers regularly — reply to their Stories, comment on their posts, and mention them in your content. This builds relationships that lead to organic cross-promotion and shoutouts.

6

Analyze bios for niche and profession patterns

Scan the Bio column for recurring themes, job titles, and interests. In Google Sheets, use CTRL+F (or CMD+F) to search for common terms: "founder", "photographer", "coach", "designer", "fitness", "creator", "artist", "marketing", etc. Count how many bios contain each term to build a breakdown of your audience composition. This tells you what types of people your content attracts and helps you tailor future posts.
Pro Tip

Export your audience niche breakdown into a simple chart. Knowing that 25% of your followers identify as photographers vs. 10% as marketers changes what type of content you should prioritize.

7

Assess audience quality with engagement indicators

Create calculated columns to assess follower quality. Add a "Follower Ratio" column (Follower Count / Following Count) — ratios above 1.0 indicate accounts that attract followers organically, while ratios below 0.1 may be follow-for-follow or bot accounts. Add a "Posts per Follower" ratio to gauge content activity. Accounts with 0 posts are ghost followers. Filter for accounts with 0 posts AND high following counts to estimate your bot/fake follower percentage.

Summary

You now have a detailed understanding of your Instagram audience demographics using real data from your follower list. Size tier distribution tells you the influence level of your audience. Influential follower identification reveals who amplifies your content. Bio analysis uncovers the professions and niches of the people who follow you. Quality indicators separate genuine followers from bots and ghost accounts. Run this analysis quarterly to track how your audience evolves over time — export new CSVs and compare them against previous snapshots. This data-driven approach to audience understanding beats relying on Instagram Insights alone and leads to better content strategy, collaboration, and growth decisions.
