FAQ

Is PlugMonkey Safe and Secure?

Yes, PlugMonkey extensions are safe to use. Every extension is reviewed and approved by Google's Chrome Web Store team, operates entirely within your browser, and never requests your passwords or account credentials. Here is a comprehensive breakdown of our security practices, data handling, and why browser-based extensions are inherently safer than server-side tools.

Chrome Web Store Review and Approval

Every PlugMonkey extension goes through Google's Chrome Web Store review process before publication. Google reviews the source code for malicious behavior, checks that declared permissions match actual usage, and verifies policy compliance. Extensions are re-reviewed with each update. This process catches common security issues like unauthorized data collection, hidden network requests, and excessive permission requests. All eight PlugMonkey extensions have passed this review and maintain good standing.

Browser-Only Architecture: No Server-Side Processing

PlugMonkey extensions follow a browser-only architecture. This means all data processing happens locally in your browser — no account data, follower lists, video files, or prompts are sent to PlugMonkey's servers. The only server communication is license validation (checking whether you are on the free or Pro tier), which transmits your license key and extension version. Nothing else.
  • No passwords or credentials — Extensions use your existing browser session. They never ask for or store your account passwords.
  • No OAuth tokens — Unlike many third-party tools, PlugMonkey extensions do not require OAuth authorization that grants read/write access to your accounts.
  • No API keys on our server — For Prompt Anything Pro, your AI API keys are stored locally in Chrome's extension storage, never on our servers.
  • No data proxying — Data flows directly between your browser and the platform (X, Instagram, Reddit, AI providers). PlugMonkey does not sit in the middle.

Minimal Permissions

Each PlugMonkey extension requests only the minimum permissions required for its functionality. For example, X Unfollow Pro only requests access to x.com — it cannot read data from any other website. Video Downloader Pro requires broader website access (since it needs to detect videos on various sites) but only accesses video stream data, not page content like forms or text fields.
  • X Unfollow Pro — Access to x.com only
  • X Followers Exporter Pro — Access to x.com only
  • Instagram Unfollow Pro — Access to instagram.com only
  • Instagram Followers Exporter Pro — Access to instagram.com only
  • Video Downloader Pro — Access to all websites (required for video detection)
  • Prompt Anything Pro — Access to all websites (required for overlay on any page)
  • Reddit Scout Pro — Access to reddit.com only
  • ReadMonkey Pro — Access to all websites (required for saving any page to your library)

Privacy Policy and Data Handling

PlugMonkey has a published privacy policy that clearly states what data is collected and what is not. The summary: we collect minimal anonymous usage analytics (feature usage counts for product improvement) and license validation data. We do not collect, store, or have access to your account data, follower lists, downloaded videos, AI prompts, saved articles, or any content you interact with through the extensions.

Rate Limiting Protects Your Accounts

Every PlugMonkey extension that performs actions on a platform (unfollowing, exporting) includes built-in rate limiting with randomized delays. This protects your account from being flagged by platform anti-abuse systems. The rate limits are calibrated conservatively — they prioritize account safety over speed. You cannot override them to unsafe levels.

Secure Payment Processing

Pro upgrades are processed through Stripe, one of the most trusted payment processors in the world. PlugMonkey never sees or stores your credit card number. Stripe handles all payment data according to PCI DSS Level 1 security standards. All payment pages use HTTPS encryption.
