How Do Desktop Notifications Work in Reddit Scout Pro?

Desktop notifications in Reddit Scout Pro alert you the moment a high-intent Reddit mention is captured — without you having to check the dashboard manually. The system is designed to surface only the most actionable matches: notifications only fire for mentions that score 70 or higher on the buyer intent scale, and a cap of 3 notifications per scan prevents your desktop from being flooded during active periods. This page explains how the notification system works, what you can configure, and how to get the most value from it.

When Do Notifications Trigger?

Notifications are not sent for every keyword match. Reddit Scout Pro applies an intent score threshold before sending any alert, ensuring that only genuinely high-value mentions interrupt your workflow.
  • Default threshold: 70+ — Notifications fire when a mention's buyer intent score reaches 70 or above. This corresponds to high-intent categories like Solution Requests, active Comparisons, and Money Talk discussions.
  • Configurable minimum score — You can raise or lower the notification threshold in Settings. Raise it to 85+ if you only want to be alerted for the hottest leads. Lower it to 50+ if you want broader coverage and are comfortable filtering manually.
  • Cap of 3 per scan — Each background scan can trigger a maximum of 3 desktop notifications, regardless of how many high-scoring matches were found. The remaining matches are still captured in your dashboard — they just do not generate a notification interruption.
  • Pro feature only — Desktop notifications are exclusive to the Pro tier. The free tier does not include background monitoring or notifications. See Free vs Pro differences for the complete feature breakdown.

What the Notification Shows You

Each notification is designed to give you enough context to decide whether to act immediately — without requiring you to open the extension dashboard first.
  • Post title or comment excerpt — The beginning of the Reddit post title or the relevant comment text, so you can immediately gauge what the conversation is about.
  • Intent score — The 0-100 buyer intent score is displayed alongside the mention, letting you know at a glance how high-priority the lead is.
  • Subreddit source — The subreddit where the mention appeared, so you have community context before clicking through.
  • Matched keyword — Which of your monitored keywords triggered the match, so you can quickly orient yourself to the conversation topic.

Click-to-Open Behavior

Clicking a Reddit Scout Pro desktop notification opens the Reddit post or comment directly in a new browser tab. You do not need to navigate through the extension dashboard first. This is intentional — when a high-intent mention appears, speed matters. Being first to a thread with a helpful, genuine response significantly increases the chance of converting the interaction into a lead or customer. The notification acts as a direct shortcut to the conversation, reducing friction between alert and action.

Configuring Notification Settings

You can adjust notification behavior from the Reddit Scout Pro settings panel to match your workflow preferences.
  • Minimum intent score — Set the score threshold that triggers a notification. Default is 70. Higher values mean fewer but more targeted alerts; lower values mean more coverage.
  • Notifications on/off toggle — You can disable notifications entirely if you prefer to check the dashboard on your own schedule. All matches are still captured — you just will not receive desktop interruptions.
  • Browser notification permissions — Reddit Scout Pro uses the standard Chrome notification system. If notifications are not appearing, check that you have granted notification permissions to the extension in your browser settings (chrome://settings/content/notifications).
  • Per-keyword notification control — You can disable notifications for specific low-priority keywords while keeping them enabled for high-priority ones. This is useful if one keyword generates many matches that you want tracked but not alerted on.

Getting the Most from Notifications

Notifications are most valuable when your keyword setup is already well-targeted. If your keywords are too broad, you may get frequent notifications for low-quality matches even with the 70+ threshold. The best approach is to pair tight keyword targeting (especially using subreddit groups to limit scope) with the notification system, so that each alert represents a genuinely qualified opportunity. For a high-scoring mention that arrives via notification, have a response prepared: a helpful, non-spammy comment that provides real value first and mentions your product only as a natural part of the answer. Reddit communities reward authenticity, and first responders with genuine insights often see the highest engagement.
